Frequently Asked Questions
How long has the Outsiders Walking Club been in existence?
We were established in 1973.
How much does it cost to join and what does this cover?
Membership costs £10 per year and runs from January to December and covers basic administration costs, programme production and distribution, club insurance etc.
Are the start and the end of the walks easily accessible by public transport?
All day walks are normally planned to start and finish at a railway station. For a linear walk, one that starts and finishes at a different railway station, ensure that you buy a return ticket to the furthest station from your start point of travel. On the occasions that the walk starts and finishes a mile or two away from the nearest station, arrangements are made with other members to give lifts to those travelling by train.
How fast do we walk?
Speed isn't the main objective, but we do walk at a reasonable pace. It usually depends on the conditions of the day and the leader. Rest assured that no-one gets left behind! However if you are fairly new to walking then we recommend that you choose an initial walk of 10 miles or less.
What is the best way to find out more about the Outsiders?
Join us on a walk! Contact us to find out the meeting details of a walk
and then come along and try us out. You may come along on up to 2 walks before
deciding whether or not you wish to join.
How many people turn up on a walk?
Varies - usually between 8 and 20.
